Denture Repairs & Relines in Durham, NC
Denture Repairs & Relines
While dentures from Smile Design Modern Dentistry – Family & Cosmetic Dentistry are designed to last for many years, you may need to visit our dentist from time to time for adjustments and minor repairs. Disease, physical trauma, and changes to the jawbone can affect the quality of your dentures and the way they fit in your mouth. You may need to see Dr. Erfan Imeni for denture repair if your dentures are:
- Broken or damaged
- Ill-fitting
- Worn out
- Immediate (not your custom-made, permanent denture)
Dr. Erfan Imeni offers denture relines and repairs in Durham, North Carolina, to keep your dentures, and therefore your smile, in excellent condition. Depending on the state of your dentures and oral health, our dentist may recommend the following:
- Reline: When the gum tissue and jawbone changes, dentures become ill-fitting and do not seal against your mouth as they should. Our dentist can perform a hard, soft, or temporary reline to improve the fit of your dentures and ensure they are comfortable for your smile.
- Rebase: If the base of the denture is worn out or cracked but the teeth are still in good condition, our dentist may replace the base to improve and strengthen your dentures.
- Repair: Fractured or damaged dentures should be addressed as soon as possible to prevent further damage and to restore your smile.
We encourage you to contact our office at (919) 220-5505, if you believe you would benefit from denture repair or a reline. Contact us at (919) 220-5505 today to schedule your consultation.
How Long Does a Denture Repair Take?
Simple repairs — a cracked base, a tooth that has come away — can often be turned around quickly, while a break that needs laboratory work takes longer. Bring in every piece, including small fragments, because a clean reassembly makes for a stronger and better-fitting repair. Please do not try to glue a denture back together at home: household adhesives are not food-safe, they distort the fit, and a denture repaired that way often cannot be salvaged afterwards.
What Is the Difference Between a Reline and a Repair?
A repair fixes the denture itself — a crack, a fracture, or a tooth that has worked loose. A reline resurfaces the tissue side of the denture so that it matches the shape of your gums again. Your jawbone and gum tissue change shape gradually once teeth have been removed, so a denture that fitted well a few years ago can become loose even though nothing about it is broken. A reline restores the seal and the comfort without replacing the denture.
How Often Do Dentures Need Relining?
Most people need a reline every one to two years. Bone changes fastest in the first year after extractions, so a new denture often needs adjusting sooner than that. The signs that one is due include slipping while you eat or talk, sore spots, food working its way underneath, and needing more adhesive than you used to. Wearing a loose denture speeds up bone loss and can cause ulcers, so it is worth having the fit checked as soon as it changes. Call (919) 220-5505 to arrange a fitting appointment.
