When people think about cavities, they think about the dental filling treatment needed to restore the tooth. They oftentimes don’t think about after the treatment. Unfortunately, there are some side effects that can be present after the treatment, and it’s important to know how to fully recover so you can return to a top-notch oral health and smile. So, to help you know what to expect after dental filling treatment with our dentist in Durham, North Carolina, our dentist, Dr. Erfan Imeni, has some details and instructions for you.

After your treatment, your mouth will still feel a bit numb. This won’t last long and you’ll get feeling in your mouth soon enough. After the anesthesia wears off, you will most likely feel sensitivity in the tooth, especially sensitivity to pressure, liquids, sweet foods, and cold air. This should only last one to two weeks. It’s best to avoid the things that cause sensitivity so you can have the comfort you deserve. If the sensitivity doesn’t diminish in two weeks, make sure to schedule an appointment with your dentist.

You will also feel a little discomfort in the injection site after the anesthesia wears off. It’s normal to feel numbness, tingling, and minor pain. These sensations should go away within a few hours after your treatment.
